How Can Digital AI Help Teachers Plan Lessons?

Teachers have had to adapt their teaching methods as technology has become more integrated into the classroom, and with the rapid development of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in recent years, those methods may change again.

While there may be questions about students using AI platforms for coursework and essay writing, teachers can benefit from using new technologies to help with administrative tasks and lesson planning to reduce workload.

AI in conventional teaching will be met with considerable skepticism from certain education professionals. Language learning models pose cyber security risks and may replace instructors, hence they should not be used without explicit standards and restrictions. However, AI might be useful if it can save time and money and enhance education, the main objective of all stakeholders.

Freeing teachers from superfluous tasks
AI is expected to enhance lesson preparation for instructors, but its long-term influence is unclear due to its youth.

However, the Department of Education is investigating ways AI can reduce teacher workload, including using virtual assistants to draft curriculum plans, create timetables, manage attendance records, grade tests, and produce high-quality teaching resources. In December 2023, the government launched the Workload Reduction Taskforce to address educator concerns, using artificial intelligence to cut instructors’ work hours by five hours per week in three years.

Creating lesson plans using AI
Despite the early phases of artificial intelligence usage in schools, instructors are already using a variety of technologies to do time-consuming jobs that may take hundreds of hours each year.
